Q

Which versions of Microsoft Project are Project Tutor and Project Mentor compatible with?

A

Project Tutor version 1.x 2013 is compatible with Microsoft Project 2013 Standard and Professional.  Project Tutor version 1.x 2010 is compatible with Microsoft Project 2010 Standard and Professional.  Project Tutor 1.x 2007 is compatible with Microsoft Office Project 2007 (Standard and Professional versions).

Project Mentor 3.x 2013 is compatible with Microsoft Project 2013 Standard and Professional.  Project Mentor 3.x 2010 is compatible with Microsoft Project 2010 (Standard Professional, and Enterprise versions).  Project Mentor 3.x 2007 is compatible with  Microsoft Office Project  2007 (Standard, Professional and Enterprise versions).

Q

Do I need a sound card to use Project Tutor or Project Mentor?

A

Ideally yes.  With a sound card (and speakers or headphones), you can see and hear the 80+ walkthroughs that enhance Project Tutor's and Project Mentor's lessons.  If you don't have sound, you can watch the walkthrough's vision-only.  Spoken text is displayed within the walkthrough movies using closed captioning.

Q

Can I use Project Mentor to help me pass Microsoft Project certification exams?

A

Yes.  Project Mentor is compatible with the 70-178 (Microsoft Project 2010) and 70-632 (Microsoft Office Project 2007) examinations.  A comprehensive study guide is available in Project Mentor to help with exam preparation.  Although Project Tutor covers the majority of the certification competencies, Project Mentor's added depth and content would be the recommended way to learn Microsoft Project to full certification competency.

Licensing FAQ

Q

I use Microsoft Project on a PC in the office and also on a laptop.  Can I use Project Tutor and Project Mentor on both the PC and the laptop?

A

Yes you can.  The Project Tutor End User License Agreement and Project Mentor End User License Agreement allows you to install on different computers that you use as long as: (i) No one else shares your Project Tutor / Mentor license; (ii) You do not use Project Tutor / Mentor on multiple computers simultaneously.

Q

Can I upgrade from older Project Mentor versions?

A

Yes.  If you purchased Project Mentor with upgrade assurance, this process should be automatic.  Please contact your systems administrator for advice, or use click the the Ask us a question link below for further information.

Q

Can I install Project Tutor or Project Mentor on to a PC alongside Project Companion?

A

Yes.  Project Companion Project Tutor and Project Mentor can co-exist on the same PC.

Technical FAQ

Q

Why does the back button on my browser not always work as expected?

A

In Project Mentor version and later and Project Tutor version 1 we enhanced the user interface so that when you jump from a lesson or reference page to a terminology definition, you can return you to your original page position and not the top of page (as with version 1).  To jump back to the correct place within a lesson or reference, simply use the 'L' or 'R' buttons within the title bar instead of the back button.

Q

My company uses a firewall, can I still use a Personal Learning Plan within Project Mentor?

A

If you can access the internet using your PC then you should have no problems getting access to your Personal Learning Plan, even if your company uses a firewall. To test internet access on your machine select Start, Run, and then type 'http://www.microsoft.com'. This should open the Microsoft web site if your PC has internet access. If you do not have internet access then you should contact your systems administrator for advice.

Q

Can I run Project Tutor 1.x and Project Mentor 3.x within the user interface of Microsoft Project as I did using Project Mentor version 2.x?

A

Unfortunately you can't now do this.  This is because Microsoft have ceased to support the Project Guide feature in Project 2010 and older versions of Project Mentor ran within the Project Guide. We have improved the functionality of Project Mentor 3.x and Project Tutor when working within Internet Explorer so you should experience no loss of usability.

Q

I've installed Project Mentor version 2 into the Microsoft Project 2007/2003/2002 interface but I cannot log into the Personal Learning Plan?

A

The Project 2007/2003/2002 interface will require that you make the Personal Learning Plan web site into a trusted site. To do this open your web browser and from the menu select Tools, followed by Internet Options, and select the Security tab. In the 'Select content zone', select the green trusted sites icon and click the sites button. Clear the 'require site verification' option and enter the following into the 'Add this site to the zone' field, 'http://www.jgaconsult.co.uk', then select the Add button. You will now be able to access your Personal Learning Plan within the Project 2007/2003/2002 interface.  For detailed integration instructions, just follow this link to our download centre.
